Roan Smith is an artist and educator opperating out of New Orleans.

Roan was born in a small town in north western PA and raised in the arts by a musician and a photographer. The first kind of art that spoke to him as a child was comic book illustration. He studied artists like Jae Lee, Todd McFarland, Frank Miller, & Frank Frazetta.  At the same time his love for music was just beginning to get out of hand.  He would spend hours staring at album covers and recognizing them not just as pieces of packaging, but as works of art meant to compliment the music. Then, as a teenager, he discovered Hip-Hop music. He became obsessed, for a short time, with graffiti art. It seemed a natural progression to go from Hip-Hop to poetry, and it wasn’t long before he discovered Beat Poetry and the counter culture of the 60's. This led him to the psychedelic concert posters of the time. All of these things together have heavily influenced his art in every aspect. A mash up of all of his favorite artists, genres, cultures, and ideas picked apart, reanalyzed, and presented to the viewer through the silly prism of a man-child with an overactive imagination.
